Romans 11:13

Some people in the town that I work in are talking about a business owner who has been prejudice towards Jewish people.  He is a Christian and he has been saying things in a prejudice way towards Jewish people and also saying things like that Hitler wasn't such a bad guy.  I read this today and I think it makes it clear that because we are saved by faith with and in God's kindness, we should not be haughty.  As Christians we are the wild olive, the branches, and it seems to be saying that people of Jewish faith are the roots.  


 Romans 11:13 - Now I speak to you who are people of the nations. Seeing that I am an apostle to the nations, I glorify my ministry to see if I may in some way incite my own people to jealousy  and save some from among them.  For if their being cast away means reconciliation for the world, what will the acceptance of them mean but life from the dead? Further, if the part of the dough taken as firstfruits is holy, the entire batch is also holy; and if the root is holy, the branches are also.  However if some of the branches were broken off and you, although being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became a sharer of the richness of the olive's root, do not be arrogant towards the branches.  If, though, you are arrogant toward them, remember that it is not you who bears the root, but the root bears you.  You will say, then: "Branches were broken off so that I may be grafted in."  That is true! For their lack of faith, they were broken off, but you are standing by faith.  Do not be haughty, but be in fear.  For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.  Consider, therefore, God's kindness and severity.  There is severity toward those who fell, but toward you there is God's kindness, provided you remain in his kindness; otherwise you too will be lopped off.  And they also, if they do not remain in their lack of faith, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them back in.  For if you were cut out of the olive tree that is wild by nature and were grafted contrary to nature into the garden olive tree, how much more will these who are natural branches be grafted back into their own olive tree!  For I do not want you to be unaware of the this sacred secret, brothers, so that you do not become wise in your own eyes: A partial dulling of the senses has come upon Israel until the full number of people of the nations has come in and in this manner all Israel will be saved.  Just as it is written: "The deliverer will come out of Zion and turn away ungodly practices from Jacob.  And this is my covenant with them, when I take their sins away. True, with respect to the good news, they are enemies for your sakes; but with respect to God's choosing, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.  For the gifts and the calling of God is not things he will regret.  For just as you were once disobedient to God but have now been shown mercy because of their disobediency, so also these now have been disobedient with mercy resulting to you, so that they themselves may also now be shown mercy.  For God has confined all of them together in disobedience so that he might show all of them mercy.

Communion - such a deeper meaning

 Communion - I love the idea of communion and the actual practice of communion.  Even the name, communion, means to meet or to commune with God. For me it is an exchange, so I can come to God and ask for forgiveness and compassion and mercy and Jesus offers that to me when I eat of his flesh and drink of his blood and receive his sacrifice for my sins, for me to be right with God. And in this receiving this connects with deeper with God and allows me to understand the sacrifice Jesus made more and more each time I have communion.  I love that it is both a devotion and a worship and that its a private moment with God amidst many other people also taking communion.  Usually in church I see people with their heads covered with their heads in a deep prayer, each person alone with God in their own place in life and in their own relationship with God.

Giving and Receiving - a story

 Here's my latest story,  hope you like it! I wrote it after reading Mark 4:24 "He further said to them: "Pay attention to what you are hearing. John 9:39 - Sin, pride and blindness

John 9:39 "Jesus then said: "For this judgement I came into this world, that those not seeing might see and those seeing might become blind." Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him: "We are not blind also, are we?" Jesus said to them: "If you were blind, you would have no sin. But now you say,  "We see." Your sin remains." This verse is really interesting and took me a moment to sit with and understand.  I think it relates to pride.  He's talking with the Pharisees and they were known to be prideful in their understandings and beliefs and this is something that kept them from believing in Jesus.  It seems that Jesus is saying that if the Pharisees had the humility and felt the suffering of blindness, they would have less pride and be more like a child of God and therefore, no sin.  But because they said "we see", its almost as if they are saying "we know", as if their previou...
