Giving and Receiving - a story

Here's my latest story,  hope you like it! I wrote it after reading Mark 4:24 "He further said to them: "Pay attention to what you are hearing. With the measure that you are are measuring out, you will have it measured out to you, yes, you will have more added to you.  For whoever has will have more given to him, but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him."  It always amazes me how beautifully the bible is written, Jesus is the genius of metaphors:)

Hope you enjoy it!

Giving and Receiving

written by Nicole Allegretti

Two birds walk along a branch

and saw a friend near her nest of eggs.

They noticed that she sat closely

but looked worried mostly.

They asked their friend Bella “Can we help?”

“I’m afraid you can’t, its my eggs,

they haven't hatched or cracked,

there must be something I’ve lacked.

Its been so long

and I’ve been waiting

and waiting

to hear my sweet babies sing their song.

Perhaps it has been much too long,

Yes, I must’ve done something wrong.

maybe in this tree,

is not where they belong.

so I should try to move them

down there,

but of course,

with great care.”

Lucy saw her friend Bella was franticly worried and afraid.

“Bella, lets sit here and wait little longer,

together, God works his magic,

they may just need alittle time to get stronger.

We can sit with you and watch together."

Her friend looked at Lucy and whispered

“Do we have time to stay here Lucy? We have a busy day.”

Lucy said quietly “she needs our help

and we must help her,

come what may.

What you have is what you can give,

and we have much

in our amount of love and such,

so lets give what we can.”

So they sat next to their friend

and started to pray,

and sang to the babies as they

stayed nestled in their shells.

They could see their friend Bella’s eyes

welling up with tears,

as she thought and thought of all her fears,

and just as she was about to give up,

the thoughts filling her cup,

a small faint line appears

on one of the eggs,

and then the next, and the next,

soon, they hear the tiniest whisper of a sound,

until all the babies voices became clear!

Every single baby bird made their way!

They saw the joy in their friends eyes,

something she need not have to say.

And as Bella cuddled each of her babies,

they shared in the love and faith

that quenched her doubt of “maybe”.

Lucy and her friend stayed for another moment or two,

and then went on their way,

to do their doings of the day.

Lucy realized giving is being there for a friend

no matter the plans made for that day.

So the lesson that Lucy wants to share today,

isn’t to be in a hurry and be on your way,

but to sit for awhile and stay,

to give patience when a friend has none,

and in the process be gifted back

love that cannot be counted or won.
